Importance of in Season programming for Elite HS Baseball Players

Over the past four years at Optimum Athletes, one of the biggest challenges with our trainees we have found is continuing development year round.

By no fault of the athletes, balancing the demands of the season with the resources provided at the high school level is difficult to say the least. Yet, to play at the next level every player will have to learn the habits and time management skills to grow on and off the field. With the industry becoming more and more competitive from top to bottom, a plan for year around development is a must.

At OA we can provide that.

One of the biggest mistakes players may make is discontinuing training during the season and putting a pause on potential growth. This is a sure fire way to see the gains made in the off season diminish.

Athlete Training In-Season Growth vs Athlete Not Training In-Season

If we’re trying to reach the summit of our “High School Development Mountain”, a plan to maintain those gains is a must. In addition to maintaining gains, a program that is built to supplement the demands of a baseball season is essential to staying healthy and feeling your best on game day. Monitoring intensity and volume in programming is crucial for managing fatigue. Fatigue is the number one precursor to injury. This is often misinterpreted into needing to stop all training outside of playing.

Unfortunately, many young athletes are not equipped with the resources to create a healthy balance of practice, games, and programming all while managing the stresses of school and being a teenager,  maintaining body weight, maintaining strength and maintaining velocity and/or hitting power. Crucial elements like maintaining body weight, strength, stability, mobility, sleep, nutrition and much more take a back seat.

At Optimum Athletes, we have the trainers, tools, and resources to create a plan to help each athlete reach their goals. Just like our MLB players, a comprehensive plan for year round development can be designed for individual athlete needs and skill level.

We create a specific plan based on athletes goals, movement deficiencies, and prioritizing skills that scale. Each athlete is screened by a KIME physical therapist and taken through performance testing. This gives us baselines and a look at what we are dealing with in each individual athlete. Tools like Rapsodo, pitch AI, Hittrax and K Vest are used to assess skills and prioritized areas of development.
